Travel Documents

Every country has its own rules for visitors of various nationalities. When visiting certain countries, for example, your passport has to be valid for at least another six months following your return. Certain countries also require a visa. You can request a visa from the embassy of the country you will be visiting; some countries grant visas upon your arrival.

It is your responsibility that your travel documents (passport, visa, health requirements) are sufficient.

Identification Document

You are required to prove your identity, by presenting a valid passport or government approved identification document with photograph, upon request at any time during your journey.

AIS Airlines has the right to refuse carriage of passengers that are unable to prove their identity. In that case, no compensation will be provided.

Travelling with Reduced Mobility

Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRMs) are likely to impede an emergency evacuation and are divided into two main categories:

  • People who are unable to walk without the help of others, or without the help of a technical aid (braces not included).
  • People with such a physical or mental disability that they are unable to understand the instructions given by the crew in case of an emergency, or that they are unable to promptly and correctly act in accordance with those instructions.

Note: passengers whose mobility is ‘obviously’ reduced due to age, obese or illness are considered a PRM as well.

Special Requirements

It would be advisable to make your reservation as far in advance of your flight as possible, particularly if you  have special requirements. The more information we have about you and any special requirements you have, the better prepared we will be to meet your needs. Because of this, we emphatically request that you inform us, the earlier the better (at least 48 hours prior to departure and, if possible, upon making your reservation), of any special needs you may have.

For example, if you:

  • Need assistance due to a visual or hearing impairment.
  • Are travelling with a trained service animal, such as a guide dog.
  • Cannot climb stairs.
  • Cannot walk the distance between the check-in area and the gate, between the gate and the aeroplane and between the gate and the arrival hall.
  • Cannot walk at all.
  • Want to use your own wheelchair or a wheelchair provided by AIS Airlines.
  • Need to make use of medical facilities at the airport or onboard.

AIS Airlines will transport your own wheelchair, free of charge.

Needless to say, we will take all possible precautions to prevent damage to your wheelchair during the flight. To help us, we ask you to transport all of its detachable parts, such as cushions and footrests, in your cabin baggage (these items will then be considered extra permitted cabin baggage). If this is not possible, we ask you to have these taped to the wheelchair. AIS Airlines does not have any packaging material available to transport your wheelchair. This is why we advise you to indicate at the time you book your flight what your wheelchair’s dimensions are and whether it is collapsible. Collapsible wheelchairs are permitted in the cabin if not restricted by size or weight.

If you wish to wheel yourself to the gate, you should indicate this when you make your reservation. Your wheelchair will then be labeled accordingly during check-in, but it will be loaded onto the aeroplane at the gate. This is why it is important that you will be at the gate at or before the boarding time. The ground staff at the gate will then ensure that you (and your personal assistant if you have one) can pre-board at your convenience.

There are also wheelchairs available for use at each of our airport locations. Since these wheelchairs are not suitable for manual use by the passenger, someone from ground staff or your personal assistant will have to push it for you. Please inform us if you require the use of such wheelchairs.

Medical Clearance

A medical clearance must be completed for the following passengers:

  • Passengers suffering from a disease that is assumed to be contagious.
  • Passengers suffering from a disease or physical condition that results in unusual behavior that could have an adverse effect on the welfare and comfort of other passengers and/or crew or could be considered a potential hazard to the safety of the flight or its punctuality.
  • Passengers who require medical attention or depend on certain medical equipment during the flight.
  • Passengers whose medical condition could be expected to become life threatening during the flight or due to flight conditions.
  • Passengers with part of their body in a cast (due to the possibility of that part of the body swelling).

If your condition is described above, you will need a medical clearance which must be send to us at least 48 hours before departure.
Pregnant women in good health and 4 or more weeks away from delivery are permitted to board and travel without restriction. Pregnant women in good health with 4 or less weeks away from delivery may be accepted, if they have a medical clearance from their doctor.

Medications

Have all the medications you need during your trip in your cabin baggage. If the quantity of liquid medication included in your cabin baggage exceeds the legal limit, you should have a doctor’s statement to this effect in order to prevent any problems during security checks.

The use of your own oxygen supply onboard the aeroplane is not permitted.

Travelling with Minors

Travelling with Infants

An infant is a minor who has not reached the age of 2 on the date of the flight and is travelling without occupying a seat, accompanied by an adult. One adult may accompany a maximum of two infants, providing that for the second infant a seat is booked and a car/child seat is carried. The car/child seat, approved for air transport, must be able to fit on the aeroplane seat, which is 42cm wide and 45cm deep. The car/child seat may not show any defects.

The maximum number of infants depends on the number of supplementary seatbelts and infant life vests available onboard. Always make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance to ensure we can carry you and your infant(s).

Travelling with Children

A child is a minor aged 2 or above and not having reached the age of 12 on the date of the flight, occupying a seat and accompanied by an adult who will bear responsibility for the child throughout the trip.

Unaccompanied Minors

An unaccompanied minor is a minor aged 5 or above and not having reached the age of 12 on the date of flight, travelling alone. Unaccompanied minors are not allowed on AIS Airlines flights.

Travel Documents

Minors of European Union citizens travelling from, to or through countries in the European Union need to carry their own passport or ID card. Having their names entered in their parent’s passport is no longer permitted. This rule does not apply to document holders of the United Kingdom or Ireland.

Baggage

Minors travelling in their own seat may bring the same amount of cabin baggage and check-in baggage as an adult.

For an infant that will be travelling on your lap, you may bring:

  • 1 piece of cabin baggage with baby care items, with a maximum weight of 6kg and with dimensions not exceeding 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.

For a minor until the age of 5, you may bring 1 small, completely collapsible, stroller free of charge. If the stroller does not fit into the cabin, you can check it in at no extra charge. The stroller may have a protective cover but this may not contain any other items.

Travelling with Pets

AIS Airlines accepts the transportation of small pets in the cabin, if the pet can be properly secured and stowed in a breathable kennel or pet travel bag made of strong and leak proof material in which the pet is able to stand up and lay down comfortably.

Please note that we have limited room for pets in the cabin. A maximum of 2 pets is allowed per flight. The maximum weight of the pet including the kennel or pet travel bag is 6kg, the maximum dimensions of the kennel or travel bag are 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.

Always make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance to ensure that we can carry you and your pet.
The costs for carrying your pet in addition to the allowed cabin baggage is 30 EUR/ flight. Is you do not carry any cabin baggage you may take your pet in his kennel or pet travel bag free of charge.

The costs are 30 EUR/ flight.

Service animals, such as guide dogs accompanying blind passengers are accepted in the cabin free of charge, without a kennel, provided that no other pets are carried in the cabin.

Fierce, aggressive and malodorous animals will not be carried under any circumstances.

A pet cannot be taken as checked-in baggage or freight on AIS Airlines flights.
